AFTER TREATMENT

Why does the retention
phase matter?

Retention is the follow-up period that helps keep teeth in their new positions once active orthodontic treatment is complete.

Visual illustrating Why does the retention phase matter?
01

Why can teeth move?

It takes time for the tissues surrounding the teeth to adapt to the new position. In addition, teeth can naturally show small movements throughout life.

02

Which appliances are used?

Fixed wires bonded behind the teeth, removable aligners, or a combination of the two may be considered. The choice is made based on individual risk.

03

How long are they worn?

The form and duration of retainer use is not the same for everyone. It can be updated over time according to your dentist’s recommended plan and check-ups.
